The company revealed in the public domain that we would be developing AR glasses. We believe that people shouldn’t be forced to choose between having a wealth of information that is at their fingertips and being part of their physical surroundings around them.

We’re launching Orion which we believe to be the most modern combination of AR glasses we’ve ever created. Orion connects the virtual and physical worlds, placing people in the center of their experience so they feel more connected as well as connected and empowered to the world.

Why Augmented Reality Glasses?

There are three reasons AR glasses are essential in unlocking the next major leap in human-centered computing.

  • They provide digital experiences that aren’t constrained by the limitations of the smartphone screen. With large holographic screens, it is possible to make the physical world a canvas for displaying 3D and 2D content as well as experiences wherever you like.
  • They seamlessly integrate AI with context that can detect and comprehend the surrounding environment to anticipate and respond to your requirements.
  • They’re lightweight and perfect for both outdoor and indoor usage, as well as letting people view each other’s faces eye, expressions, and eyes.

This is the direction that our industry has been striving towards a product that combines the convenience and ease of wearables and a huge display along with high-bandwidth inputs and AI that is contextualized in a way that users feel at ease wearing throughout their everyday lives.

The Evolution of Smart Glasses

Ray Ban Meta glasses have proven the value of providing people with free access to important parts that make up their lives online, independent of their physical devices. You can speak to a sophisticated AI assistant, communicate with your friends, and record those moments that matter all without needing to reach for the phone.

But even as Ray-Ban Meta opened up an entirely new type of display-free glasses that are boosted by AI and XR, the XR business has always dreamed of truly AR glasses – a device that blends the advantages of a huge holographic display and personalized AI aid in a comfortable everyday wearable shape. Orion is up to the challenges.

Groundbreaking AR Display in an Unparalleled Form

We’ve been at it for a long time to harness the amazing spatial experiences offered through VR as well as MR headsets and to reduce the technology required to offer these experiences through Online Stores for Glasses that are lightweight and elegant.

Finding the right shape factor, creating stunning holographic displays, creating compelling AR experiences, introducing innovative Human-computer interface (HCI) models, and putting it all within one seamless product are among the toughest issues that our industry has faced. It was so difficult that we believed we had less than a tenth of a chance of completing it successfully. Until now.

Orion is an amazing feat of miniaturization. The components are compressed to just a few hundredths of a millimeter. A plethora of innovative ideas were needed to reduce the design to a modern shape that you’d be happy to wear every day.

Orion is the most expansive field of view available in the smaller AR glasses design to date. The wide field of view enables an immersive experience for Orion such as multitasking and large-screen entertainment to life-size holograms of individuals and all the digital content that seamlessly integrates with your perception of the real world.

What is what makes Orion distinct is that it is glassed in appearance and feel and comes with clear lenses. Contrary to MR headsets, or any other AR glasses you can see the eyes of others and their expressions and be present and share your experience with those who are around you.

Augmented Reality Experiences

Of course, like any other piece of hardware Orion will only become as useful as the possibilities you accomplish with it. Even though it’s very early, the possibilities that are offered by Orion provide a fascinating glimpse into the future.

Our smart AI assistant Meta AI running on Orion. It can understand the things you’re seeing within the world of physical reality and can provide you with helpful visualizations. This means you can open your fridge and request recipes that are based on the contents. You can also video chat with someone while you’re adjusting your digital family calendar while you wash dishes.

It is possible to make a uni-directional video call to stay in touch with your loved ones in real-time. Additionally, you can remain connected via WhatsApp or Messenger to send and view messages. You don’t have to grab your phone, open it, locate the appropriate app, and let your pal that you’re behind on dinner time – you can do all this by looking through your glasses.

The teams at Orion continue to build on the experience available through Orion currently to create new experiences that are immersive and social We’re excited to reveal what’s coming the next step.

A Purposeful Product Prototype

Although Orion will not make it to the shelves of customers, don’t make a mistake: this isn’t an experiment in research. It’s among the most polished prototypes of a product we’ve ever made that represents a product that could be sold to customers. Instead of trying to rush it on the market, We decided to concentrate initially on developing it internally. This means that we can continue building rapidly and push the boundaries of technology, allowing us to create a better consumer product quickly.

What Comes Next

Starting today, at Connect and continuing through the year, we’ll open the access of our Orion prototype product to Meta employees as well as selected external users so that members of our team in development can study how to iterate and develop the consumer AR glasses line of products, which we’re hoping to start shipping shortly.

We’ve now opened Orion to the entire world, we’re focusing on a few areas:

  • Adjusting the AR display’s quality so that the images are even more sharp
  • We are constantly optimizing our processes to make the form factor smaller
  • Scaled construction to lower costs

In the coming years, you’ll be able to see a variety of new devices from us that build upon our research and development efforts. Orion isn’t just a peek into the future, it’s a glimpse at the possibilities at hand in the present. With everything from Ray Ban Meta to Orion, We’ve witnessed the benefits gained by making people more in touch and energized within the physical world while embracing all the digital world can provide.
